Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is an advanced therapeutic technique commonly used for breaking down tight myofascial units and restoring proper neuromuscular function. Two of the main IASTM techniques are Graston and FAKTR; these are tried and tested in restoring musculoskeletal health. The instruments utilized are made of contoured rubber or stainless steel to apply force to the body through a small area giving mechanical leverage to your chiropractor.
Advantages of IASTM include the capacity to broadly scan tissue and to pinpoint tight or stringy muscles, scar tissue, adhesions, restricted fascia, and trigger points that may be contributing to your pain or discomfort.
The purpose for all soft tissue mobilization therapies is to stimulate a pro-inflammatory response. This specifically designed inflammatory response induces a healing effect in the tissue by increasing blood flow and stimulating collagen production in order to remodel the affected soft tissue structures. Graston and FAKTR ultimately reduces dysfunction and pain by increasing the quality of soft tissue. If you live in the greater Wichita, KS area and want to learn more give us a call.
