"Maintenance care” is a moniker used in the chiropractic profession to get patients to be proactive about their health and bodies by scheduling visits in advance even though they are not currently in pain. The thought in doing so would be to mitigate the likelihood of future injuries/presenting in pain by addressing issues prior to them getting to that point.

Maintenance Care Red Flags

Not to downplay anything we do IN the office, but there really is nothing to support this on its own. There are very few scenarios that seeing any provider (whether it be an MD/ortho, chiropractor, PT, etc.) only on a long-term basis has really any benefit to your health. This does not mean that we do not treat patients who have flare-ups of prior complaints, stubborn problem areas, or new complaints that may be needed to be addressed. It simply means that, if you’re either: 1) treating the same complaint for months on end, or 2) being pressured to receive care for a long period from a provider, this should be a red huge flag.

All Roads Lead to Fitness

The goals of every, sound, care plan should be to treat the complaint in a reasonable amount of time and then transition you into a more active lifestyle, if you aren’t already. This is because research shows the only thing that will increase your longevity, quality of life, and decrease your susceptibility to disease is exercise; that’s it! Not medication. Not chiropractic care. Not physical therapy. In fact, the very definition of fitness is “suitable to fit a particular task and resilient to stress.” Each day, our bodies perform certain physical tasks and have certain stressors that if our bodies are not prepared for, can result in a painful episode if we haven’t properly trained for it. In essence, we ideally want a base-level-capacity to do our activities of daily living without causing harm or pain.

At ICT MJC, we believe in this model so much that our west side clinic specifically is oriented for greater space needed to optimally perform rehabilitation exercises and conduct group training classes and personal training sessions as well. After getting you out of pain, we feel there is no better opportunity to transition you into “maintenance care” aka...fitness!

Group Training

We are super excited to announce we will continue the group training classes that we were doing prior to the outbreak at our west side office! Oftentimes, even some our own patients don’t realize we have a chiropractic office on the west side! This was to reach more Wichitans, by having both an east and west side chiropractic clinic, and also start branching out into the fitness realm since our new space will allow it!

These will be open to the public in the very near future with affordable drop-in rates. Call or message us for more info! There is no better time than now to start your maintenance care.
